Getting sick of the beach? Head over to this waterhole just outside of Airlie Beach, and it has a secret!
Cedar Creek Falls
Finding swimming holes right next to a carpark is like hitting the jackpot. Cedar Creek Falls is located just outside of Airlie Beach and is perfect for a very cool, refreshing dip.
Swimming in water in Far North Queensland always seems like a risk, but don't worry, this waterhole is crocodile free!
We got to the waterhole quite early, and it did not take long at all before the waterhole got rather busy. Obviously with it's location, and ease to get to, it is a very popular spot.
Usually there is a waterfall, we went in Spring and unfortunately the waterfall was not running. So don't expect to see a waterfall on your visit, but visiting after rain I'm sure would provide a spectacular sight!
This waterhole is also home to many little creatures, like turtles and fish.
I was really hoping for a walk with this, so we went exploring around the waterhole. If you walk to the far right of the waterhole you will find a track heading up. Follow this track, but be warned it is very steep and at times I was crawling to get up.
If you make it to the top you will be rewarded with another waterhole, surrounded by beautiful Alexandra Palms and wild Orchids.
It's like a double decker waterhole!
Getting There
Unfortunately this waterhole is not accessible by public transport, the best way to get here is by driving.
Know Before You Go
Pack sunscreen, the UV in Australia is very high
There are toilets at the carpark
Pack lots of water
Do not jump from the rock, there have been fatalities and paralysis
